Introduction


Women play an important role in all aspect of nation and state life. One of the roles of women that is frequently ignored is their in the economic development sector. Yet, in fact, 60% of 50.7 million total of micro, small and medium enterprises are the women economic players.  It had been impacted to the lack facilitation to them.

Based on this experience, several NGO’s (non-Government Organization) who concerned about the empowerment of women in small-micro business (PUK-Micro) formed a network which is named The Foundation for Women in Small Business or Yayasan Pendamping Perempuan Usaha Kecil (YASPPUK), in their first National Forum on December 11th, 1997, Jakarta.

However, in the course of the time, in the second National Forum on February 24th to 27th, 2001, Lombok, NTB, the members agreed to change the institutional form of YASPPUK to an association which is named ASPPUK (Assosiasi Pendamping Perempuan Usaha Kecil) or the Association for Women in Small Business Assistance.

Vision
To facilitate the development of an equal and gender-equitable women in small-micro business (PUK: perempuan usaha kecil) in a democratic, prosperous, egalitarian, equal and gender-equitable civil society.

Mission
  • To facilitate the development of an equal and gender-equitable PUK-Micro movement as a civil society enforcement.
  • To facilitate the development of an economic resources aces and control of women in small micro business.

Program

  • To facilitate and enforce members of the association in advocacy, networking and fund raising. The association facilitates training with a gender-equitable perspective and women political awareness, comparison studies and market studies, community organizing, as a practical input to improve the critical awareness and skill of the NGO’s member as a counterpart of PUK-micro.  
  • The empowerment of women in small-micro business ASPPUK empower PUK-micro through NGO’s members. In that contact, NGO’s member facilitate PUK-Micro with trainings, workshop, seminars, comparison studies, to establish a PUK institution at the basic level. In the framework of enhancing the critical awareness and bargaining position of PUK-Micro the association have facilitated PUK-micro to establish their own network such as “JARPUK” (a network for women in small business) and alternative financial institution named “LKP” as  their capital resources at district level.
  • The Empowerment of market network for Women in Small-Micro product Business.     ASPPUK have cooperation with non-member institutions, domestically as well as overseas, who care about the empowerment of women in small-micro business product. Besides that, ASPPUK had facilitated the possibility of market communication among JARPUK.
  • Study and Policy advocacy to empower PUK-micro right.                                                ASPPUK did an advocacy as an effort to provide for Women in Small-Micro Business (PUK-Micro) by supporting solidarity, seminars, workshops, Study, policy analysis, hearing, lobby and developing a public opinion.
  • Networking. ASPPUK establish cooperation with non-member institutions, domestically as well as overseas, who care about Women in Small-Micro Business (PUK-Micro).
  • Publication. As a communication media of the members and non members, ASPPUK had published research study, women empowerment best practices, and other media learning electronically and non electronic, and website development (www.asppuk.or.id).
